Safety boundary

Real-world adults and current procedures control

Sideline Compass provides general education. It cannot monitor conditions, assess symptoms or injury, contact emergency services, provide first aid, supervise youth, or clear anyone to participate or return to play.

Urgent danger: stop using the app and contact an appropriate responsible adult, qualified professional, or local emergency service immediately.

How to use a gate

Before. During. Stop.

Before identifies a plan or condition to confirm. During names what responsible adults should continue to watch. Stop marks the point where activity or app use gives way to real-world assistance.

NO DIAGNOSISThe app never determines whether a symptom is serious or whether an athlete is safe to continue.
NO AUTOMATIONIt does not receive weather, location, health, equipment, venue, or emergency data.
NO GUARANTEEA checklist cannot eliminate risk or certify a provider, adult, plan, product, or activity.

Eight general gates

Pause before participation pressure

Each topic requires current, context-specific judgment from people with actual responsibility and information.

01 Emergency boundary

Before: know the venue, responsible adult, current plan, and how local emergency services are reached.

During: keep youth supervised and follow qualified directions.

Stop: seek immediate help for urgent danger, serious injury, breathing difficulty, loss of consciousness, or any emergency concern.

02 Head impact or symptoms

Before: review the provider’s current concussion and removal-from-play procedure.

During: athletes report any hit or concerning change to an adult.

Stop: remove from participation and follow qualified medical and return-to-play guidance.

03 Heat and hydration

Before: check conditions, shade, water, breaks, equipment, and the organizer’s heat plan.

During: watch changing conditions and preserve a no-pressure exit.

Stop: respond to confusion, fainting, severe weakness, vomiting, worsening symptoms, or adult concern.

04 Equipment

Before: use required, approved, correctly fitted equipment for the current activity.

During: follow manufacturer and qualified-adult instructions.

Stop: remove damaged, altered, contaminated, missing, or poorly fitted equipment from use.

05 Weather and environment

Before: check current lightning, air, temperature, visibility, field, traffic, and facility conditions.

During: follow local warnings and organizer decisions.

Stop: leave when conditions change, shelter is unavailable, or the responsible adult cancels.

06 Travel and handoff

Before: confirm driver, restraints, passengers, destination, supervision, pickup, and current contacts.

During: use clear adult-to-adult handoffs.

Stop: halt the transfer when authorization, vehicle, destination, or responsibility does not match.

07 Youth and adult boundaries

Before: use transparent, guardian-aware channels and safeguarding procedures.

During: keep meetings observable and appropriate.

Stop: report grooming, abuse, harassment, retaliation, discrimination, or boundary violations.

08 Media and identity

Before: confirm consent, purpose, audience, retention, and removal.

During: minimize identifiers and protect routines, contacts, documents, and live location.

Stop: do not share when consent is absent, access is uncontrolled, or a minor is pressured.
